Docr’d

TERMS OF SERVICE

The agreement between us.

Last updated September 30, 2026.

These terms are a contract between you and Relyt Works LLC, a North Dakota limited liability company (“Docr’d”, “we”, “us”), the company that makes the Docr’d desktop app, web app, website, and cloud services (together, the “service”). By creating an account or using the service you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the service. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information and is part of how the service works, though it is not a contract term you must accept.

We have tried to write this in plain language. The headings are for convenience only.

1. Your account

You must be at least 16 years old to create an account. To make a purchase, you must be at least 18 years old and have reached the age of majority where you live. We ask you to confirm these requirements before account access and before your first purchase. If you use Docr’d for an organization, you confirm you are allowed to accept these terms for it.

You sign in with a one-time code sent to your email address or, where offered, with Apple or Google. New accounts have no Docr’d password. This means whoever controls your email inbox or linked sign-in can reach your account and your synced library. Keep them secure, sign out on shared devices, and tell us promptly at support@getdocrd.com if you believe someone else has access. You are responsible for activity under your account that results from not doing so.

Give us an email address you can receive mail at. We use it for sign-in codes and for notices about your account, billing, and these terms.

2. What the service is

The Docr’d desktop app keeps your library on your own computer and works without an account. An account adds optional cloud features: a web library you can open in a browser, sync between devices, hosted text recognition (OCR), and research discovery. Which of these you can use depends on your plan and, for the free tier, on the availability of a free place.

Free-tier places are limited; when none is available, new accounts wait in order for one, and waiting does not by itself grant cloud access. Monthly allowances, storage capacities, and safety limits such as the number of documents and the size of an upload are shown on the pricing page and in your account.

We improve Docr’d continuously, so features may be added, changed, or removed. If we remove something you are paying for in a way that materially reduces your plan, you may cancel and we will refund the unused part of the period you have paid for.

3. Your documents and notes

What you put into Docr’d stays yours. We claim no ownership of your documents, annotations, notes, or research.

To run the service you give us permission to store, copy, back up, transmit, and process your content, only as needed to provide the features you use: for example, storing a PDF so you can read it on the web, syncing it to your devices, extracting its text when you ask for OCR, and keeping backups so it can be restored. This permission ends when the content is deleted from our systems, allowing for the backup retention described in the Privacy Policy.

We do not sell your content, and we do not use it to train machine-learning models.

You are responsible for your content. Only upload material you have the right to use, such as your own work, material you have licensed, or material you may lawfully keep a personal copy of. If you look up a document’s metadata or run a research search, the identifiers or search terms involved, and a contact email address those providers ask for, are sent to bibliographic providers to answer the request; document bodies are not.

Keep your own copies. The service is a working library, not an archive of record. We back up cloud content and work hard not to lose it, but you should keep independent copies of anything you cannot afford to lose.

4. Using Docr’d responsibly

You agree not to: break the law or infringe others’ rights; upload malware or content that is illegal to possess; try to access other people’s accounts or data; probe, overload, or disrupt the service or get around its limits, allowances, or access controls; resell or share access to your account; or use automated means to extract the service’s data at a scale a person would not. We may set reasonable technical limits to keep the service reliable for everyone.

If you believe content on the service infringes your copyright, write to legal@getdocrd.com with enough detail for us to find it and verify your claim. Libraries are private, so this is rare, but we respond to valid notices and may suspend accounts of repeat infringers.

5. Plans, payments, and refunds

Who you pay. Purchases are sold through Stripe Managed Payments. Stripe’s reselling entity is the merchant of record: it sells the plan or page pack to you, collects payment, calculates and collects any sales tax, VAT, or GST, issues your receipt, and processes refunds. You can replace the payment method for a plan from Plan & billing in your account, on a page Stripe hosts, and request a refund through Link support as described below. Stripe’s own terms apply to that transaction, and its name may appear on your statement alongside Docr’d. We never receive or store your card details.

Plans renew automatically. A plan is a monthly or yearly subscription. It renews each month or each year, as you chose, at the price shown when you subscribed, and the payment method you provided is charged at each renewal until you cancel. Prices are listed in U.S. dollars and include any sales tax, VAT, or GST; your receipt shows the tax portion. Buyers outside the United States may be shown a localized currency and amount at checkout.

Cancelling. You can cancel at any time from Plan & billing in your account, without contacting us. Cancelling stops future renewals. Your plan stays active until the end of the period you have already paid for, and you can resume before then if you change your mind. We do not charge a cancellation fee.

Changing plans. A change between plans with the same billing period takes effect at your next renewal. There is no immediate charge and no proration, your current allowances continue until then, and you can reverse a scheduled change before it takes effect. Switching between monthly and yearly billing starts a new billing period: the new price is charged when you switch, the new plan begins once that payment succeeds, and the unused part of the earlier period is not credited.

Page packs. OCR page packs are one-time purchases. They do not renew, the balance they add does not expire while your account remains open, and Docr’d never charges automatic overages: when an allowance runs out, the feature pauses until it resets or you choose to buy more. You need an active paid plan to buy a pack, and packs are used after your monthly allowance. If your plan ends, packs pause with your other paid features; the balance stays on your account and can be used again when you restore a plan.

Allowances. Monthly allowances reset each month, on yearly plans too (or each calendar month, in UTC, for free accounts), and do not roll over. Allowances and pack balances have no cash value and cannot be transferred.

Fair use. Features a plan includes without a stated allowance, such as Ask Docr’d and paper discovery, are for an individual’s own research. Each account has a monthly fair-use limit that ordinary use does not reach. If an account reaches it, those features and OCR pause until the next monthly reset, and we tell you in the app. Docr’d never charges for usage you did not buy.

If a payment fails. We will tell you in your account and you can update your payment method and retry. If a renewal remains unpaid, paid features pause: you can still read, export, and download your existing cloud content, but you cannot add to it until the plan is restored. Local desktop use is unaffected.

Refunds. Our refund policy is subject to your statutory rights and Stripe Managed Payments’ refund policy, which takes precedence over any more restrictive policy here. Stripe may issue a refund under its policy even when we would not otherwise offer one. Apart from those rights and the unused-period refunds promised in sections 2 and 6, payments are non-refundable and we do not give credit for partly used periods. You can request a payment refund through Link support or contact us for help with the product or a promised unused-period refund. We do make exceptions in good faith, for example for a duplicate charge or a purchase the service could not fulfil, so please ask at support@getdocrd.com. When a page pack is refunded, the balance it added is removed in proportion to the refund; if some of it has already been used, the shortfall is deducted from future packs of the same kind, never from your documents or your monthly allowance. When a full refund of a subscription payment completes, the paid period that payment covered ends and paid features pause; the subscription still renews unless you cancel it. A partial refund does not change your plan or its period.

Your statutory rights. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer law that cannot be waived. If you live in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or another place that gives consumers a withdrawal period for online purchases, you may have 14 days to withdraw. To exercise an applicable withdrawal right, send a clear statement of your decision to support@getdocrd.com or Link support. Any deduction for service already supplied is limited to what applicable law permits and depends on any required request, consent, acknowledgment, and confirmation. Purchasing or using a plan or page pack does not by itself waive your statutory withdrawal rights.

Price changes. If we change the price of your plan, we will email you at least 30 days before the change applies to you. It will take effect at your next renewal after that notice, and you can cancel beforehand to avoid it.

6. Ending or suspending accounts

You may stop using Docr’d at any time. You can delete your account yourself in Account settings, or ask us to delete it by writing to privacy@getdocrd.com from your account email address. Before deleting, you can download a copy of your cloud library from the same page. Deleting an account cancels any active plan straight away and refunds, to the payment method you used, the unused part of the period you have paid for, in proportion to the time left, and any unused page-pack balance, in proportion to the pages left, counting your most recent packs as the unused ones. Deleting an account does not remove files already downloaded to your devices.

We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms, creates risk or legal exposure for others or for us, or must be closed by law. Where we reasonably can, we will warn you first and give you a chance to fix the problem and to export your content. If we close a paid account for a reason other than your breach, we will refund the unused part of the period you have paid for.

If a paid plan ends, your cloud content is not deleted right away. We will give you at least 30 days’ notice by email before deleting cloud content from an account that no longer has cloud access, so you have time to download it or restore a plan.

7. Services we rely on

We use established providers to run Docr’d, including for account sign-in, hosting, file storage, email delivery, payments, document processing, and bibliographic data. They are listed in the Privacy Policy. Their outages can affect Docr’d, and services you connect yourself, such as a reference manager or your own OCR backend, are governed by their own terms.

8. Our software and brand

We and our licensors own the service, its software, and the Docr’d name and marks. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the service and to install the desktop app on devices you control, under these terms. Open-source components included in the apps remain under their own licenses. Feedback is welcome, and you agree we may use it without obligation to you.

9. No warranties beyond those stated

Text recognition, document reconstruction, metadata matching, citations, and research suggestions are produced by automated systems and can be wrong. Check anything important against the source. Docr’d is a research aid, not professional, legal, medical, or academic-integrity advice.

To the fullest extent the law allows, the service is provided “as is” and “as available”, and we disclaim implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not promise the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that content will never be lost. Some places do not allow these disclaimers, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

10. Limits on liability

To the fullest extent the law allows: (a) neither we nor our suppliers are liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, goodwill, or data; and (b) our total liability for all claims relating to the service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid for Docr’d in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim, or 50 U.S. dollars.

These limits do not apply to liability that cannot lawfully be limited, such as for fraud, for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or under consumer laws that cannot be waived.

11. If your use causes a claim against us

If you use Docr’d for a business or organization, you agree to cover our reasonable costs, including legal fees, arising from a third party’s claim caused by your content or by your breach of these terms. This section does not apply to individuals using Docr’d as consumers.

12. Governing law and disputes

Most concerns can be resolved quickly by writing to support@getdocrd.com, and we ask that you try that first. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of North Dakota, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and the state and federal courts located in North Dakota have jurisdiction over disputes. If you are a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country or state where you live and may bring proceedings in your local courts where those laws allow.

13. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as Docr’d evolves. For changes that materially affect your rights or what you pay, we will email you at least 30 days before they take effect. Other changes take effect when posted here with a new date. If you keep using the service after a change takes effect, you accept the updated terms; if you do not agree, you may cancel before then.

14. The rest

These terms, together with any plan details shown at purchase, are the whole agreement between us about the service. If a court finds part of them unenforceable, the rest still applies. Our not enforcing a term is not a waiver. You may not transfer this agreement without our consent; we may transfer it as part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of the business, and the Privacy Policy will continue to protect your information. Sections that by their nature should survive the end of this agreement, including sections 3, 9, 10, 11, and 12, do so.
